NH Home Design Awards– Alice won!

Alice Williams

We are so thrilled to announce that New Hampshire Home Magazine Design Awards has just named Alice the 2014 Bath Design Winner!  Alice also received an Honorable Mention in the Interior Design category.

Martin Meadow Pond Bathroom

Here’s what the judges had to say: “This was a bold statement using a classical language. The room has a thorough conviction to the period detail. The use of the woodwork (pilasters, trim, ceiling moldings) to create a framework within which the various bathroom elements sit was very well achieved. Use of color and material enhanced the light, airiness of the space.”

Thanks you so much to Andi Axman and New Hampshire Home magazine for your consideration.

Hanover Window Decorating Contest

Alice Williams

Once again, Sotheby’s was kind enough to ask Alice Williams Interiors to decorate their windows for the holiday window design contest in downtown Hanover this year.  The window contest is sponsored by the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and we are so excited to participate again!  This year, all the windows will be themed to holiday stories; we chose Jan Brett’s The Mitten.

We made oodles of paper mittens out of poster board…

Truly, oodles of them!

Big huge trees out of foam core, lit with twinkle lights…

Little trees made out of real white pine…

And, of course, miniature lit Christmas trees with faux snow…

We staged the windows roughly here in the office, so we could have a sense of what things would look like.

Then, today was installation day!  Sotheby’s brochure window got a string of mittens, some snow and a little lit Christmas tree.  We didn’t want to take away from the beautiful homes they feature.

And the large window got the whole book treatment!  Lots of paper mittens, a big knit mitten with all the animal characters from the story snuggled inside, tiny woodland creatures (wee Steiffs borrowed from Alice’s childhood!), trees, snow and Nicki, the protagonist who lost his mitten in the story.

We would especially like to thank PJ Stanwood of Body Kneads Massage in Norwich, VT.  PJ, a massage therapist by trade, is also an artist.  She painted our Nicki and we couldn’t be more thrilled with him!

Please stop by Sotheby’s the next time you are in Hanover and see our window!

Sotheby’s Window Decoration

Alice Williams

Last December, the Hanover Chamber of Commerce sponsored a holiday window decorating contest, and Four Seasons Sotheby’s asked Alice Williams Interiors to decorate their windows.  They recently requested we refresh their windows for the spring season, which, of course, we were delighted to do.

Everyone wanted to keep the bird and bird house theme going, so what we needed was an infusion of gorgeous spring flowers!

We hand-tied a curtain of flowers with monofilament.  Here is a shot from the inside of the window.

“Nesting for the Season…” was originally a part of the holiday-themed window, but since birds actually nest in the spring, it seemed wholly appropriate to keep it.

This side did not get quite as intense of a flower treatment, because the brochure racks with Sotheby’s featured homes are the focus.

We added some nests and eggs to the display, like the nest seen on this bird house’s porch.

We used copious amounts of monofilament to achieve this window display…

We had so much fun reworking the Sotheby’s window into a bright and cheery springtime display.  If you are in the Hanover area, please make sure to walk by Sotheby’s and take a peek!
